Mission Statement

'The goal of Torrington Methodist Church is to respond to the gospel of God’s love in Christ through worship, discipleship, fellowship and mission.'

Mission Strategy

Our aim is to underpin everything we do with God centred worship and prayer.

We are committed to praying for the life and witness of the church, praying for the sick and needy and world issues.

Worship.

We aim to provide people with worship, suitable for all ages, both traditional and modern.

We encourage worship styles which are relevant to our needs and the needs of those who wish to worship with us.

Our young people are encouraged to develop and do lead their own worship service.

We offer opportunities for all to contribute towards worship.

Our worship is enhanced by our Choir and Brass Band.

We have modern technology for use in worship and we continue to keep pursing new ways of presenting the gospel in that field by developing skills and using our gifts in that area.

We actively seek to make people feel welcome and provide them with a comfortable worship area which is accessible to all.

Teaching

We offer and seek to develop various Bible Study/Fellowship Groups with a view to strengthening our faith and understanding of the gospel, helping ourselves to live it out in our everyday lives.

We aim to teach scripture and application during early years through to teens as well as adults.

Pastoral.

We are and seek to continue to be a caring community offering care and understanding to each other and our neighbours, we seek to support each other in times of need both spiritually and practically.

We offer friendship meals and seek to offer pastoral care through our pastoral visitors.

Local Community.

We seek and continue to find new ways of witnessing within the local community, sometimes including work with other churches in the town. Our aim is to reach out to those in need (the homeless and needy) and support and work with local Voluntary Organisations. (Red Cross, Local Hospital, Macmillan Nurses, Cancer Research and Care, Methodist Homes, Action for Children and others).

We aim to open our premises for the use of all those who would wish to use it and welcome the Jack and Jill’s Nursery, Friendship Club, Memory Cafe, Metal Detectors, Language Studies and Squeeze Box instruction.

Wider World.

We support and promote the raising of funds for organisations like Shelterbox, MRDF , Mercyships, Leprosy Mission, Edukid.

Environmental

We continue to actively promote ways and means of reducing our carbon impact on our community and the wider world.

Building

We want our building to be warm and welcoming and suitable for purpose, a safe environment where people can meet and get to know each other, where people can learn about and meet God. We want our building to be a safe environment and a community resource to be used seven days a week, open for all, open for God.
